Malampuzha Dam best picinic spot in Kerala !!

Malampuzha Garden is a beautifully landscaped garden on the front side of the Malampuzha Dam. It is full of lush green lawns with well laid-out flower beds. There are pathways to watch and enjoy variety of fountains and marvelous sculptures, including the famous Yakshi sculpture created by Sri. Kanayi Kunhiraman. There is a canal flowing through the middle of the garden, which has 2 hanging bridges above it. The ropeway moves across the garden giving an unforgettable aerial view of the garden. Boating Facility is available in the Garden. The dam and the garden is illuminated at nights on Weekends and Public Holidays.

There is a swimming pool in the Garden, which is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The pool will be closed for Lunch Break from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and only ladies will be permitted from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The pool is safe for people of all age groups, and all necessary security gadgets are available. While going for swimming, bags and other belongings can be kept in a safety locker, which is charged at Rs. 15 per locker. (A refundable amount of Rs. 100 is to be paid as caution deposit for using the Swimming Pool Locker). The entire garden is under video surveillance under the Tourism Police. Location:  Located between the North Latitude 11027’ and 15058’ and East Longitude 75047’ and 70027’, district of Wayanad is on the southern tip of the Deccan plateau. On it’s North, South and West lie the districts of Kannur, Malappuram and Kozhikode (Calicut). To it’s North and East, it borders the Karnataka districts of Coorg and Mysore. Further to the southeast lies the Nilgiri district of Tamilnadu.

Altitude:  700 to 2100 metres above Mean Sea Level.

Area: 2132 sq. kms.

Main Towns:  Kalpetta is the District Headquarters. Sultan Bathery and Mananthavady are the other towns.

Climate:  The district enjoys uniformly pleasant climate throughout the year. The period between Dec. and Feb. is rather chilly (avg. 150C ).

Annual Rainfall:  Average over 2300 mm. Wayanad, like the rest of Kerala gets two Monsoons: the SW (Jun. - Sept.) and the NE (Oct. - Nov.). Lakkidi, the place which gets the highest rainfall in the state
is in Wayanad.

Main Crops: Cardamom, Coffee, Pepper, Tea, and of late, Vanilla.

Clothing: Light summer clothes for most of the year. However between Dec. and Feb. it is advisable to carry warm clothes.

Language: While Malayalam is the local language, English and Hindi are widely spoken and understood. Kannada and Tamil are also understood towards border regions.

കൊച്ചി: വിദേശ ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ക്കായി അടുത്തമാസം മുതല്‍ ഇ-വിസ ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തുമെന്ന് കേന്ദ്ര ടൂറിസം അഡീ. സെക്രട്ടറി ഗിരിശങ്കര്‍ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തി. കേരള ട്രാവല്‍ മാര്‍ട്ട് എട്ടാം പതിപ്പിന്‍െറ സമാപന സമ്മേളനം ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്ത് സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തില്‍ 40 രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളെയാണ് ഇതില്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളിക്കുന്നത്. ഇ-വിസ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് പ്രധാന വിമാനത്താവളങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ക്ക് ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ എത്താന്‍ സൗകര്യം ഒരുക്കും. നടപ്പുവര്‍ഷം തന്നെ ഈ സംവിധാനം പൂര്‍ണാര്‍ഥത്തില്‍ നടപ്പാക്കും. ദൈവത്തിന്‍െറ സ്വന്തം നാട് ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകളെ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കുന്ന മനോഹര പ്രദേശമാണ്. എന്നാല്‍, ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകളെ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കാനുള്ള പദ്ധതികള്‍ക്ക് സംസ്ഥാനം താല്‍പര്യം കാണിക്കുന്നില്ല. വിദേശ ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ക്ക് ആതിഥേയത്വം വഹിക്കാനും മാര്‍ക്കറ്റിങ്ങിനുമുള്ള കേന്ദ്ര പദ്ധതികളുടെ സാധ്യതകള്‍ കേരളം ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുന്നില്ല. മറ്റു തെക്കന്‍ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളും ശ്രേണിയില്‍ ഇ തന്നെയാണ്.
